CUET

WHAT IS CUET?

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a national-level entrance examination conducted in India for admission to undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes across Central Universities, State Universities, Deemed Universities, and participating institutions. CUET was introduced to provide a standardised, fair, and transparent evaluation system so that students from varied educational boards and regions can be assessed on a common platform. The test helps streamline admissions by assessing candidates on core academic competencies and subject-specific understanding relevant to their chosen fields.

Key features of CUET include:

1. Multi-disciplinary reach — CUET scores are accepted by a wide range of universities and programmes including arts, sciences, commerce, management, law, engineering, and more.

2. Subject-specific tests — The examination comprises multiple Subject Test Papers aligned with academic streams, allowing students to take only the tests relevant to their intended programme.

3. Common eligibility benchmark — CUET provides a unified benchmark that reduces dependency on board exam marks alone and helps universities compare applicants fairly.

4. Online mode — The exam is conducted as a computer-based test (CBT) at designated centres across India (and select international locations for some cycles).

5. Multi-language support — CUET is offered in multiple languages, making it accessible to students from different linguistic backgrounds.

The CUET pattern typically includes sections on Language Skills, Domain/Subject Knowledge, and General Aptitude, with question types designed to test comprehension, analytical reasoning, quantitative skills, and core subject knowledge. Performance in CUET combined with university-specific eligibility criteria is used for admissions into undergraduate and postgraduate courses, helping students secure seats in a large network of centrally funded and participating institutions.
