What is NATA?

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA), India for admission to undergraduate architecture programs (B.Arch) in recognized colleges and universities across India. NATA is designed to assess a candidate’s aptitude for architecture, including drawing skills, observation, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity, and critical thinking.

  • Purpose: Admission to B.Arch programs in architecture colleges approved by the Council of Architecture (CoA).

  • Eligibility: Candidates must have completed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, or be appearing in their final year.

NATA Eligibility Criteria

  1. Educational Qualification:
    • Candidates must have passed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent from a recognized board.
    • Mandatory subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM).
    • Candidates appearing for their Class 12 final exams are also eligible to apply.
  1. Age Limit:
    • No strict age limit, but candidates must satisfy the CoA guidelines for admission to B.Arch programs.
  1. Minimum Marks:
    • Candidates must have obtained at least 50% aggregate marks in PCM in Class 12.
    • Relaxed criteria for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates as per institute norms.
  1. Nationality:
    • Open to Indian citizens, NRIs, OCIs, and foreign nationals.
  1. Admission Criteria:
    • NATA score is used for admission into B.Arch programs in colleges approved by the Council of Architecture (CoA).
    • Some universities may combine NATA scores with 10+2 marks or institute-specific criteria.

NATA Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Exam: Partially Computer-Based Test (CBT) for Mathematics and General Aptitude; Pen-and-Paper / Online for Drawing section.
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Total Marks: 200
  • Sections:
  • Mathematics (50 marks): 20–25 questions covering algebra, trigonometry, geometry, calculus, coordinate geometry, arithmetic, and basic statistics.
  • General Aptitude (50 marks): 50 multiple-choice questions testing visual perception, reasoning, analytical ability, mental ability, and architectural awareness.
  • Drawing / Design (100 marks): Tasks assessing freehand sketching, perspective, geometrical drawing, 2D/3D composition, creativity, proportion, and scale.
  • Marking Scheme:
  • MCQs (Mathematics & Aptitude): Negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • Drawing Section: No negative marking.
  • Skills Tested: Analytical thinking, creative ability, visualization, and design aptitude.
  • Purpose: Evaluates suitability for professional architecture education in India.

Registration Process NATA

  • Step 1 – Visit Official Website:

    • Go to the Council of Architecture (CoA) NATA portal: https://www.nata.in
  • Step 2 – Register / Create Account:
    • Click on “Apply Online” for the relevant NATA session.
    • Enter basic details: Name, Date of Birth, Email ID, Mobile Number.
    • A system-generated application number will be provided.
  • Step 3 – Fill Application Form:
    • Provide personal details, academic qualifications, and choice of exam center.
    • Select the session and confirm details carefully.
  • Step 4 – Upload Documents:
    • Upload recent passport-size photograph, signature, and other required documents as per CoA specifications.
  • Step 5 – Pay Application Fee:
    • Fee can be paid online via debit/credit card, net banking, or UPI.
    • Keep the payment receipt for reference.
  • Step 6 – Submit Application:
    • Verify all details before submission.
    • Download and print the confirmation page for future reference.
  • Step 7 – Admit Card & Exam:
    • Admit cards are released 2–3 weeks before the exam.
    • Candidates must download the hall ticket and check all details carefully.
