Differences Between Indian Law Schools
There are mainly two types of law schools in India:
The National Law Universities (NLUs) were set up by an Act of Parliament of the Government of India. They are independent state universities. There are currently 23 NLUs in India. These are generally thought to be the best legal schools in the country. Attorney companies and businesses want to hire NLU graduates.
Other Law Schools: These include private law schools, law schools run by the government, and institutes with legal programs. There is a wide range of quality at these schools, and some are pretty good. The NLUs in general are more respected, though.
In India, there are different kinds of law degrees as well as different kinds of law schools. The three-year Bachelor of Laws (LLB) school is the most popular way to get an undergraduate law degree. In addition, there are five-year programs that combine a bachelor degree with an LLB. Postgraduate degrees in law include the Master of Laws (LLM) and the Doctor of Philosophy in Law (PhD).
The top law schools in India were inspected by the BCI.
Bar Council of India (BCI) is a key organization that makes sure the quality of law education in India. The BCI doesn't actively review and approve law schools, but it does have a thorough process for reviewing, approving, and making sure that law schools that are already in place meet certain standards.
Setting guidelines
The BCI sets the minimum standards for legal education in Schedule IV and its Rules on Legal Education. There are things like the normal curriculum, the number of faculty to students, the student-to-teacher ratio, the building and the amenities.
Allowance of New Law Schools
Any brand-new law school that wants to offer an LLB program needs to get permission from the BCI first. This includes giving an outline of the college's teachers, staff, programs, and other details. For sending a team to check out the college and see if it meets the standards, BCI charges an inspection fee.
Examination of Present Law Schools
To figure out how good the education is, BCI looks at things like student records, course materials, teachers' credentials, the college's facilities, and conversations between students and teachers.
Consequences of Not Following
If a law college doesn't meet the BCI requirements, the Council can take a number of actions, including sending warnings or orders to make sure compliance, adding penalties and fines, and even taking away the college's approval.
